The Storm That Kills

An unlikely thing, the needs between you and me.

I see,

something unlikely in the way you look at me
Quite rightly I worried and looked for a way out
But you proved that you only wanted the best things
For me, for us, and for the things that would come to be.

Did you miss it? The sweet kisses? Embrace it,
feel the heartbeat that screams for all those things
I needed. Some day, some way, we can throw off
the yokes and wake together every day.

I’ll never be sure, but your whispers I heard; they call me
in from the storm that kills. You knew I made it, but saved me
from drowning in my own still waters. Thanks again
for blessing me with your glow, the light within.

Did you miss it? The sweet kisses? Embrace it,
feel the heartbeat that screams for all those things
I needed. Some day, some way, we can throw off
the yokes and wake together every day.

I talk too much and have never felt enough, but you
shut me up with a kiss that burned a little too much.
Not that I’m complaining, because I have callouses
That will protect me, not all the way, but enough.
