A Summer Storm

The rain-dance patters

against tin and rattles

the loose pieces above.

An unhappy dog barks,

in a neighboring yard,

out in the rain, unloved.

There is stillness here,

here in my home, where

three beasts roam, shoving

me out of my chair.

The rain’s dance,

the roof’s tin,

can’t distract the beasts within,

as the thunder strikes fear

from above.
